Halo semuanya, ketemu lagi dengan saya, Iman Prabawa. In this article, I want to talk to you about the meaning of the word [papa] in the Indonesian language, and as always, we will watch examples from movies where the word [papa] is spoken.
If you have any questions regarding the Indonesian language, you can ask me directly. You can see how to do that on my About Me page.
If you are a beginner in the Indonesian language, you can learn step by step with My Lesson Here.
So, let's talk about this. Shall we?
Meaning of Papa In the Indonesian Language
The first meaning of [papa] is father. Sometimes you hear Indonesian people add [h] in the end when saying it [papah], and sometimes not, but the meaning is the same, [father].
The second meaning of [papa] is poor. But, usually, it collocates with the word [kaum]. So, [kaum papa] means someone poor. We can see an example sentence from the picture below.
The screams of the poor behind the glittering of the capital city.
Below is the audio version of the sentence [Jerit Kaum Papa di Balik Gemerlap Ibu Kota].
So, as you can see, the word [papa] collocates with [kaum] if it means the poor. Next, we will watch examples from movies where the word [papa] is spoken.
Example of Papa In Use
In this section, you will see examples from movies, youtube videos, and whatnot where the word [papa] is used.
The first clip we are about to watch is taken from a movie, Teka Teki Tika (2021). Let's watch the clip below.
In this scene, Budi says this sentence to his wife, Sherly.
Lihat papamu. (Look at your father.)
So, [papa] in this scene means [father].

Sasarannya warga yang belum sempat sarapan pada pagi hari. (Mrs. Lies Lies walks through the streets of Solo every day to distribute food to the poor. The number of the food is not small.
